Mike Schmitz, IS Director
ASB Announces New IS Director
American Solutions for Business, based in Glenwood, Minnesota, has recently named Mike Schmitz as the Director of Information Services. Schmitz has been with the company for 4 years, serving as the Manager of Business Systems. He has 19 years of experience in the technology field and has worked as a systems programmer for the Department of Defense, an application developer and technical director with IBM, a Business Unit Manager and Vendor Liaison for a consulting company in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and was a principal for Invincio Interactive, an interactive Website development consulting company. Schmitz has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in management.
In his new position, Schmitz will be a member of American's Management Team and primarily responsible for providing leadership for the development and implementation of American's information technology initiatives. He will direct the planning and implementation of the IS systems which support American's business operations and strategic objectives. "What excites me about my new role is that there is a real management emphasis on business involvement in technology. It's important that we follow a process to make certain that technology solutions fit business needs and vice versa,” said Schmitz. “We recognize that it's in American's best interest to buy solutions where we can, rather than build our own, and then use the talents and capabilities of our staff to support and extend these systems to uphold the flexibility that makes American unique. In addition, we need to continue to evolve and improve those technologies that are often our corporate face to the end user.”
Mike and his wife, Alice, live in Alexandria, Minnesota with their three children, Zachary, Amanda and Justin.
